Alzheimer’s Disease and Down Syndrome: What You Need to Know
This seminar will be facilitated by Pam Myers, RN and Program Director for the Alzheimer’s Association, Central and Northwest Ohio chapters. This presentation is open to the community and healthcare professionals and offers one CEU for social workers and nurses. Ms. Myers will discuss common warning signs as well as the connection between Alzheimer’s Disease and Down Syndrome, the importance of an accurate diagnosis; how to obtain one and how to plan for life after diagnosis; as well as practical tips and strategies for care.

Managing Dementia-Related Behaviors
Caring for a loved one with dementia poses many challenges for families and caregivers. Some of the greatest challenges of caring for that loved one are the personality and behavior changes that often occur. Dr. Douglas Scharre, Medical Director for The Ganzhorn Suites of Powell, and Director of Cognitive Neurology & Medical Director for The Memory Disorders Clinics at The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center will discuss: Why certain behaviors may occur, how caregivers can modify their own approach to help decrease challenging behaviors, resources for caregivers and healthcare professionals. This program is open to the public as well as healthcare professionals. It is also approved for one CEU for social workers and nurses.
